Amazon’s New International Return Rules Take Effect August 11 — What Sellers Need to Know

Amazon is rolling out new return requirements that go live on August 11, 2025, and they’re especially important for FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant) sellers who ship to Germany and the UK.

⚠️ What’s Changing?

For international orders over €25 (Germany) or £20 (UK), when a return request is submitted, sellers will have 3 calendar days to provide:

  • ✅ A local return address in Germany or the UK
  • ✅ A prepaid return shipping label
  • ✅ Or a returnless refund

If no action is taken within 3 days, Amazon will refund the customer automatically and deduct the cost from the seller’s account. No SAFE-T claim will be available.

📌 Who’s Affected?

This affects all FBM sellers shipping to Germany or the UK, especially those fulfilling from outside the EU or UK (e.g. India, USA, China).

🧾 What Sellers Should Do Now

To avoid unexpected charges, take the following steps:

🛠️ Update Your Return Settings:

  1. Log in to Seller Central
  2. Go to Settings > Return Settings
  3. Add a local return address in Germany and/or the UK
  4. Set up returnless refunds for low-cost or bulky products

📧 Monitor Your Returns:

  • Set up notifications to alert you when a return is requested.
  • Ensure someone can respond within 3 days.

✅ Why This Matters

This policy is Amazon’s way of improving the customer experience, but it also puts increased responsibility on sellers, especially cross-border shippers.

If you’re not ready for this change, your listings and margins may take a hit from unexpected refunds.
