Amazon EU Sellers: New Commercial Liability Insurance Requirement from June 23, 2025

Amazon EU Sellers: New Commercial Liability Insurance Requirement from June 23, 2025

As of June 23, 2025, Amazon has updated its requirements for EU sellers regarding commercial liability insurance. If you’re selling on Amazon and your monthly sales exceed EUR 5,000, this update directly affects you.

Here’s everything you need to know—and how to stay compliant.

📌 What’s Changing?

Amazon is reinforcing its commercial liability insurance policy for sellers in the European Union. According to the updated Amazon Services Europe Business Solutions Agreement, the following will apply:

  • Sellers with over EUR 5,000 in monthly sales must maintain a valid commercial liability insurance policy.
  • Amazon will no longer require that they be named as “additional insured” on your policy (effective from June 23, 2025).
  • Sellers must be prepared to upload a Certificate of Insurance (COI) upon Amazon’s request.

🛡️ What Is Commercial Liability Insurance?

Commercial liability insurance protects your business in case your product causes property damage or personal injury. For example, if a defective product you sell leads to injury or damage, this insurance helps cover potential claims or legal costs.

💡 Why Is This Important?

Failing to comply with this policy can result in:

  • Suspension of your Amazon account
  • Listing deactivation
  • Delayed payouts or restricted disbursements

To avoid interruptions in your selling activity, it’s essential to act proactively.

📝 How to Upload the Certificate of Insurance (COI) to Amazon

Once you’ve arranged your policy, follow these steps to upload your COI:

  1. Log in to Amazon Seller Central
  2. Go to Settings > Account Info
  3. Under Business Information, click on Insurance
  4. Upload your Certificate of Insurance (PDF or accepted format)
  5. Ensure your COI includes:
    • Your legal business name and address
    • Policy number and insurer name
    • Coverage dates and limits
    • Confirmation that the policy includes product liability coverage

🇩🇪 What Does It Cost in Germany?

If you’re based in Germany, commercial liability insurance typically costs:

  • €250 – €800 per year for small-to-medium sellers
  • Up to €1,500/year for higher-risk products or larger volumes

Prices vary depending on your product category, sales volume, and insurer.

✅ What You Should Do Now

  • Contact a local insurance provider or Amazon-recommended provider
  • Arrange your commercial liability insurance policy
  • Be ready to upload your COI after June 23, 2025
