The EU Battery Regulation & Battery EPR: What Amazon Sellers Must Do in 2026

Quick answer: If you sell batteries or any product containing one, even a non-removable cell, you are a battery producer. Register for battery EPR in each country, enter the numbers under Manage Your Compliance, and report volumes. Products also need the crossed-out bin symbol and capacity and chemistry marking, plus separate WEEE and packaging registrations, or Amazon may suppress the offer.

Batteries have their own EPR stream and, increasingly, their own rulebook. The EU Battery Regulation is tightening labelling, registration and due-diligence duties — and it applies whether you sell loose cells or products with a battery sealed inside. Here is what matters for Amazon sellers in 2026.

Which products are caught

If you sell batteries on their own, or any product that contains or is supplied with a battery — portable electronics, powered toys, tools, wearables, anything with a rechargeable cell — you are a battery “producer” for EPR purposes. That is true even when the battery is not removable.

Battery EPR registration

Like packaging and WEEE, battery EPR is registered country by country. Germany requires registration for batteries (with an authorised representative for non-German sellers); France issues a UIN for the battery stream; other markets have their own registers. You get a number, enter it in Seller Central, and report the volumes you place on the market.

Labelling and the EU Battery Regulation

Beyond EPR, the Battery Regulation phases in requirements such as the crossed-out wheelie-bin symbol, capacity and chemistry marking, and — over time — digital information like a QR-linked battery passport for certain categories. Check that your products and listings carry the correct markings for the categories you sell.

Keeping Amazon listings active

Enter your battery registration numbers under Manage Your Compliance for each marketplace. Because a battery-containing product also needs WEEE and packaging registration, confirm all three are present — a missing battery number alone can be enough for Amazon to suppress the offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a product with a built-in, non-removable battery still count?

Yes. If the product contains a battery, you have battery-producer obligations, whether or not the cell can be removed.

Is battery EPR the same as WEEE?

No. A powered device typically needs both a WEEE registration for the device and a separate battery registration for its cells, plus packaging EPR for the box.

What labelling do batteries need?

At minimum the separate-collection (crossed-out bin) symbol, plus capacity/chemistry information; certain categories face additional marking and, in time, a battery passport under the EU Battery Regulation.

Do I need a representative to register batteries?

In several countries, non-established sellers must appoint an authorised representative to register and report for the battery stream. Germany is the clearest example.
